Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser - your file never leaves your device. How this is verifiable

Every fund and ETF charges fees, usually as an annual total expense ratio (TER) on the invested assets. One percent sounds small, yet over decades it eats up a surprisingly large share of your wealth - because the fee reduces not only your return but also the compound growth on the money that would otherwise have kept growing. This calculator compares two paths: your wealth at the full gross return and the same wealth at the return reduced by the expense ratio. The difference is the true fee impact.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. Both paths compound monthly from the starting capital and contribution, one at the gross return and one at the gross return minus the expense ratio. Three key figures come out: the final value without fees, the final value after fees and the fee impact as the difference between them. The chart shows how that gap grows year by year. Change an input and the result and chart update instantly.

An honest note: this is a model-based estimate, not financial or investment advice. The expense ratio is modelled simply as an annual deduction from the return; real fee structures (front-end loads, transaction costs, performance fees, spreads) can differ, and the TER does not capture every charge. Taxes, inflation and fluctuating returns are deliberately not included. The amounts are shown in euros as an example; the underlying maths applies to any currency. For binding statements, talk to a qualified adviser.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter the starting capital, monthly contribution and gross return.
  2. Add the annual expense ratio (TER) and the term.
  3. Read off the fee impact and the final value with and without fees - with the chart.

Limitations: A model-based estimate with monthly compounding; the expense ratio is computed simply as an annual deduction from the return. Front-end loads, transaction costs, performance fees and spreads are not captured; real costs may differ. Taxes, inflation and fluctuating returns are left out. Term 1 to 100 years, rates at most 100 % per year. Amounts are in euros as an example - the maths applies to any currency. Not financial or investment advice.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is the TER?

The total expense ratio is a fund or ETF's annual total cost as a percentage of the invested assets. It is taken continuously from the fund's assets.

Why is the fee impact larger than the fees themselves?

Because each fee taken is not only gone but also loses its compound growth over the remaining term. That missed return is included in the fee impact.

Are taxes and inflation included?

No, deliberately not. This is only about the effect of the ongoing expense ratio on the final wealth; taxes, inflation and other fees are left out.

Can I use other currencies?

The amounts are shown in euros as an example; the figures hold unchanged for any other currency.
