The hearing frequency test plays pure sine tones one after another at several frequencies between 250 Hz and 16,000 Hz. For each tone you confirm whether you can hear it or not - together that gives your perceived frequency range. Volume is hard-capped in code and ramps in gently for every tone, never abruptly.

Human hearing ideally covers roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, though sensitivity to very high frequencies typically declines with age (presbycusis) - a well-known audiological phenomenon, not a diagnosis this test could make.

Speakers, headphones and especially Bluetooth headphones transmit high and low frequencies very differently - your result is therefore strongly device-dependent and not comparable to other devices or a medical hearing exam. For real hearing concerns, only an examination by an ENT specialist actually helps.

Why should I use headphones?

Speakers transmit high and low frequencies very differently, and often noticeably worse than headphones - without headphones the result is barely meaningful.

How is the volume controlled?

Volume is capped in code at a low maximum and ramps in gently for every tone, never abruptly - independent of your device’s system volume.

Why is my result different on another device?

Speakers, headphones and Bluetooth codecs transmit the frequency response very differently. Your result is therefore only really comparable on the same device.

Are my results stored or uploaded?
