MP3 is by far the most common audio format, but it often falls short for fine editing in an audio program or for hardware that only accepts uncompressed files. This tool converts your MP3 file to WAV locally - a simple, uncompressed PCM format that practically every editing program and studio device reads without detours.

Technically, ffmpeg decodes the compressed MP3 samples back to linear PCM and packages them in the WAV container, with no further compression. The channel count (original, mono or stereo) is selectable; the sample rate is carried over automatically from the source file.

Honestly framed, the conversion brings no gain in sound quality: whatever detail MP3 discarded during encoding stays gone, and WAV cannot bring it back. The point lies elsewhere - an uncompressed intermediate file for editing, sampling, or a device that simply cannot play compressed formats.

    In 3 steps

    1. Drop your MP3 file.
    2. Choose channels (original, mono or stereo).
    3. Download the WAV file.

Limitations: The output file is noticeably larger than the MP3 source because WAV is uncompressed. Sound quality stays at the level of the MP3 source - a lossless output does not restore detail already lost during encoding. One file per run.

    FAQ

    Is my file uploaded?

No, everything runs locally in the browser; the file never leaves your device.

Does the WAV file sound better than the MP3?

No. WAV only stores the samples uncompressed; it cannot recover detail that MP3 encoding already discarded.

Why is the WAV file so much larger?

WAV holds the raw PCM samples without compression - typically 5 to 10 times larger than the MP3.

Can I also go back from WAV to MP3?

Yes, there is the sibling tool "Convert WAV to MP3" for that.
