PNG files are often needlessly large for photos. JPG cuts the file size substantially and is ideal for photos, email attachments and websites - with barely any visible difference.

The image is painted onto a local canvas and exported as JPG; transparency is filled with white. Nothing is uploaded.

JPG uses lossy compression that deliberately removes image detail the human eye barely notices - which often shrinks photo files to a fraction of the PNG size. For a holiday photo that is ideal; for a line drawing or a screenshot with text it is not, because JPG creates visible halos around sharp edges. You set the right trade-off between size and sharpness with the quality slider.

      In 3 steps

      1. Drop your PNG file.
      2. Choose a quality (optional).
      3. Download the JPG.

Limitations: JPG is lossy and stores no transparency (transparent areas become white). For graphics with sharp edges, PNG remains better.

      FAQ

How much smaller is the file?

For photos often 60-80% smaller, depending on the quality setting.

      Is transparency lost?

Yes. JPG has no alpha channel, so every transparent area is filled with a solid colour. White is the preset, but the Background option lets you choose a different fill colour, for example so a logo matches the background it will sit on later.

      Are images uploaded?

No, everything runs locally in the browser.

      Which quality value makes sense?

For photos, 0.8 to 0.9 is a good compromise between file size and sharpness. Only below that do the typical block artefacts at edges become clearly visible.

      Multiple files?

Yes, download individually or as a ZIP.
