Ideal weight is a rough guide to what body weight suits a given height. There is no single formula but several that grew up over time: Devine (originally for drug dosing), Robinson, Miller and Hamwi. All derive weight from height and distinguish between men and women, yet arrive at slightly different values. This calculator shows all four side by side, plus the healthy weight range from the body mass index (BMI 18.5 to 25) for your height.
The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The four formulas start from a base weight at 152 cm (5 feet) and add a fixed amount per inch above that, separately for men and women. The healthy range comes from the BMI: the lower end at BMI 18.5, the upper at 25, each times your height in metres squared. Change the height or sex and all the values and the table update instantly.
An honest note: this is only a rough guide and does not replace medical advice. The formulas account for neither build nor muscle mass, age or body-fat percentage - a muscular person can be healthy well above the calculated ideal weight. There is no single correct weight; the range is more meaningful than a single value. For a sound assessment, talk to a medical professional.

In 3 steps
Enter your height in centimetres.
Select your sex (male or female).
Read off the ideal weight by four formulas and the healthy BMI range.
Limitations:A rough guide, not medical advice. The formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi) derive weight from height and sex only and account for neither build nor muscle mass, age or body fat. The healthy range follows BMI 18.5 to 25. A single target is less meaningful than the range.
FAQ
Are my inputs uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.
Which formula is the right one?
None is definitive on its own. Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi are different approximations; the healthy BMI range is often the more useful guide.
Is this a medical recommendation?
No. It is a rough guide that ignores build, muscle mass and age and does not replace medical advice.
Why do male and female differ?
The formulas use a different base weight and a different increment per inch of height for each sex, derived from population data.
