    A preview image for a video, a still for a presentation, or just a screenshot from a specific second - this tool decodes exactly the one frame you need instead of processing the whole video.

    Important and honest: the returned frame is the last frame AT OR BEFORE the entered timestamp (presentation order) - if the timestamp is past the end of the video, the last available frame is used instead.

    Everything runs locally in the browser with mediabunny (MPL-2.0, self-hosted, no third-party CDN) on the browser's native WebCodecs API. Your video is not uploaded.

    On the format choice: PNG gives the still losslessly and pixel-exact - ideal for text, screenshots, diagrams or anything with sharp edges; JPG produces a much smaller file and suits photos and colour-rich scenes. The image comes out at exactly the video's resolution, without up- or downscaling, so a frame from a 4K video also lands as a 4K still.

    Limitations: Always exactly one frame, no frame range or contact sheet. One file per run, ~600 MB limit (the browser tab's memory limit: without streaming support the file must fit in whole, with streaming it rises to about 1 GB). Needs a secure context (https) and browser WebCodecs support.

    Is my video uploaded?

    No. The whole extraction happens locally in your browser.

    What if the timestamp is past the end of the video?

    The last available frame is used instead of showing an error.

    PNG or JPG - which is better?

    PNG is lossless and larger, JPG is smaller with minimal quality loss - pick based on your purpose.

    Can I extract several stills at once?

    No. This tool delivers exactly one image per run. For several timestamps, run the tool multiple times.

    Does the image lose quality?

    With PNG, no (lossless). With JPG, a small, usual compression loss.
