The typing test measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy: you type out a randomly assembled practice text, and the tool computes your WPM from the correctly typed characters using the internationally standard convention of 5 characters per word - so neither unusually long nor unusually short words skew the result, and typos are not counted. Choose between a 1-minute test, a 3-minute test or a fixed word count; you can correct typos with backspace as usual.
The practice text is made of common everyday words and is self-authored - not taken from any external text corpus. This first version covers languages written in the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets; the tool does not yet support input methods (IME) for Chinese, Japanese and Korean, because a test like this would really measure IME operation rather than raw typing speed. Arabic (right-to-left) is deliberately missing for now, because a fair RTL typing-test experience needs its own careful design decision that we do not want to rush. Honest note on the practice text’s language: dedicated word lists exist only in German and English so far - every other interface language practices with the English text for now, until a dedicated word list for that language is ready.
The whole test runs locally in your browser: the practice text is generated right on your device, and nothing you type ever leaves it. Your best score per mode, history (at most the last 50 runs) and a progress chart are stored locally by your browser - with a visible export and delete button, so your data genuinely belongs to you.

Is my input uploaded or stored?
No - the practice text is generated locally in your browser, and nothing you type is ever sent anywhere. Your best score, history and progress chart are stored locally by your browser, exportable and deletable with one click.
How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
From the CORRECTLY typed characters, divided by 5 (the internationally standard convention of "1 word = 5 characters") and by the elapsed time in minutes. Incorrectly typed characters do not count, so mashing keys does not produce a high number.
Why doesn’t the test support Chinese, Japanese or Korean?
Those languages are usually typed via an input method (IME), where a keystroke only becomes a character after a selection step - a test like this would then measure IME operation rather than raw typing speed. That is its own product with its own design, not part of this first version.
Will Arabic (right-to-left) be added?
Possibly, but deliberately not in this version yet: a fair typing-test experience for right-to-left script is its own design question (cursor direction, text alignment, keyboard layout) that needs careful research rather than a quick guess.
Where does the practice text come from?
From a self-assembled list of common everyday words - not taken from any external, potentially license-encumbered text corpus. A larger corpus derived from published sources is documented as a possible future extension.
I am using the page in a language other than German or English - what language is the practice text in?
Currently English: dedicated word lists exist only for German and English so far, with more languages planned as an extension. The page itself still works fully in your chosen language - only the practice text is temporarily in English.
How is this different from Monkeytype, 10FastFingers or typing.com?
The basic principle (type out text, measure WPM) is similar for every typing test. The difference: here the practice text is generated right in the browser from a self-authored word list, there is no account, no ads and no server-side leaderboard - your history is stored exclusively locally on your device.
