Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser - your file never leaves your device. How this is verifiable

The body mass index relates weight to height and gives a simple orientation as to whether the weight is in the usual range. From your weight and height this calculator shows the BMI value, the range that counts as a healthy weight at your height, and a scale with the four common categories from underweight to obese. So you see at a glance where your value sits.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The BMI is the weight in kilograms divided by the height in metres squared. The healthy-weight range comes from a BMI of 18.5 to 25 for your height. The categories follow the common thresholds: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to 25 healthy, 25 to 30 overweight, 30 and above obese. Change an input and everything updates instantly.

An honest note: the BMI is only a rough figure. It does not distinguish muscle from fat and does not fit everyone equally well - for example very athletic people, children, pregnant women or older people. It is a first reference point and does not replace medical advice. For your daily energy needs use the calorie calculator.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

How is the BMI calculated?

Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. Example: 70 kg at 1.75 m gives a BMI of about 22.9.

Which BMI counts as healthy?

A BMI of 18.5 to 25 is commonly seen as a healthy weight, below that underweight, 25 to 30 overweight and 30 and above obese.

Is the BMI meaningful for everyone?

Only to a limited extent. It does not distinguish muscle from fat and does not fit very athletic people, children, pregnant women or older people well. It does not replace medical advice.
