The RAL (Retribuzione Annua Lorda) is the standard Italian reference figure for an annual salary. From the RAL, the INPS contribution (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale, the statutory pension insurance) is deducted first - the standard employee rate in industry and commerce is 9.19 percent. On the remaining taxable income (reddito imponibile fiscale), the calculator applies the IRPEF bracket table (Imposta sul Reddito delle Persone Fisiche): 23 percent up to 28,000 euros, 33 percent from 28,000 to 50,000 euros, 43 percent above (2026 tariff).

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The INPS contribution is deducted from the RAL, giving the taxable income (net-before-tax). The calculator applies the IRPEF bracket table progressively to that base. Net-before-tax minus the estimated IRPEF gives the estimated annual net salary.

An honest note: the detrazioni da lavoro dipendente (employee tax credits, article 13 TUIR) and the regional/municipal surtaxes (addizionali regionali/comunali) are NOT included - both would raise (credits) or slightly lower (surtaxes) the actual net salary and depend on region, municipality and income band. The 9.19 percent INPS rate applies to the standard case (industry/commerce employee) and can differ by contract type. Italy only. Not tax advice.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is the RAL?

Retribuzione Annua Lorda - the annual gross pay, the standard reference figure in Italian salary negotiations, usually spread over 13 or 14 monthly instalments.

Why is my actual net salary higher?

Usually because of the detrazioni da lavoro dipendente (employee tax credits), which this calculator does not model - they lower the IRPEF actually owed compared to the plain bracket calculation.

Did the IRPEF bracket table change for 2026?

Yes: the middle bracket dropped from 35 to 33 percent (Legge di Bilancio 2025). The 28,000 and 50,000 euro thresholds and the 23 and 43 percent rates stayed the same.
