ROI stands for return on investment: was an investment worth it? From the capital invested and the end value this calculator shows three figures: the absolute gain, the total return over the whole period in percent and the return per year. That lets you compare investments of different length fairly, because the yearly return brings the total down to a single year.
The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The gain is end value minus capital, the total return is gain divided by capital. The return per year is the annual growth rate at which the capital grows to the end value over the period (the geometric mean). If you lose money all three figures are negative. Change an input and everything updates instantly.
An honest note: this is a pure return metric. Taxes, fees, deposits and withdrawals in between and inflation are left out - the inflation calculator shows real purchasing power, the compound-interest calculator growth with regular contributions. The amounts are shown in euros as an example; the maths applies to any currency. Not investment advice.

FAQ
Are my inputs uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.
What is the difference between total return and return per year?
The total return covers the whole period; the return per year brings it down to a single year - so investments of different length become comparable.
How is ROI calculated?
Gain = end value minus capital. Total return = gain divided by capital times 100. Example: 1000 grows to 1300, that is a 30 % total return.
Are taxes and fees included?
No. The calculator shows the pure return. You need to account for taxes, fees and inflation yourself.
