Anyone wanting to reuse music, a podcast recording or a voice note from a video for iTunes, Apple Music or an iPhone-ringtone project can hardly avoid M4A - the native AAC container of the Apple ecosystem. This tool pulls the audio track out of practically any video format (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI) and encodes it directly as M4A.

The tool drops the video track (-vn) and encodes the audio track with ffmpeg's native AAC encoder at the chosen bitrate, wrapped in an MPEG-4 container - exactly the format iTunes, Apple Music and most iOS apps expect.

AAC in M4A is usually considered slightly cleaner than MP3 at the same bitrate, but is less commonly supported outside the Apple environment - for maximum compatibility, "Video to MP3" is the better fit instead. Everything runs locally in the browser, with your video never uploaded.

    In 3 steps

    1. Drop your video file (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or AVI).
    2. Choose bitrate and channels.
    3. Download the M4A file.

Limitations: Only the first audio track is extracted if several are present. M4A/AAC is less commonly supported outside the Apple ecosystem than MP3. If the video contains no readable audio track, the tool reports that honestly instead of producing an empty file. One file per run.

    FAQ

    Is my video uploaded?

No, the entire extraction runs locally in your browser.

    Why M4A instead of MP3?

M4A is the native format of the Apple ecosystem (iTunes, Apple Music, iOS ringtones) and usually slightly cleaner than MP3 at the same bitrate.

    Which video formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and AVI - the tool detects the container automatically.

Can I get a WAV instead?

Yes, there is the sibling tool "Convert video to WAV" for that.
