For fine editing in an audio program - say, cleaning up an interview recording or reworking a film score as a sample - a compressed format like MP3 or AAC is unsuitable: every further edit would bake in more artifacts. This tool pulls the audio track out of practically any video container (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI) and stores it uncompressed as WAV.

The tool automatically recognizes the respective container, drops the video track (-vn) and writes the samples as PCM into the WAV format - whether the source is H.264/AAC in an MP4, VP9/Opus in a WebM, or an old DivX/MP3 pairing in an AVI.

Since WAV is uncompressed, the output file becomes noticeably larger than an MP3 extraction, but no further encoding step alters the sound data - ideal as an intermediate format for editing or restoration. Everything runs locally in the browser, with no upload of your video.

    In 3 steps

    1. Drop your video file (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or AVI).
    2. Choose channels (original, mono or stereo).
    3. Download the WAV file.

Limitations: The WAV output is noticeably larger than a compressed extraction. Only the first audio track is extracted if several are present. If the video contains no readable audio track, the tool reports that honestly instead of producing an empty file. One file per run.

    FAQ

    Is my video uploaded?

No, the entire extraction runs locally in your browser.

    Which video formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and AVI - the tool detects the container automatically.

    Why WAV instead of MP3?

WAV is uncompressed and therefore the better starting material for editing, sampling or further processing - for plain listening, use "Video to MP3" instead.

Can I get M4A as output instead?

Yes, there is the sibling tool "Convert video to M4A" for that.
