Morse code transmits letters and digits as a sequence of short and long signals - shown as dots and dashes. It comes from telegraphy and is still used today, for example in aviation and at sea or as the distress signal SOS. This tool translates both ways: you enter ordinary text and get the Morse code, or you enter dots and dashes and get the readable text.

The tool detects automatically what you enter. Letters within a word are separated by a space, whole words by a slash - so the division is preserved when translating back. The letters A to Z, the digits 0 to 9 and the common punctuation marks of the international ITU standard are supported. Characters without a Morse equivalent are omitted.

The whole translation runs entirely locally in your browser in pure JavaScript - your text is not uploaded, not stored, and no foreign library is loaded from a CDN. You can download the result as a text file or copy it straight out.

    FAQ

    Is my text uploaded?

No. The translation runs entirely locally in your browser; your text never leaves your device and is not stored.

    How are words separated?

Letters within a word by a space, whole words by a slash (/). That way the word division is preserved when translating back.

    Which characters are supported?

A to Z, 0 to 9 and common punctuation per the international ITU standard. Characters without a Morse equivalent are omitted.

Does the tool detect the direction automatically?

Yes. Inputs of only dots, dashes and separators are turned into text, everything else is turned into Morse code.
