Behind every barcode sits a string, usually an article or serial number. This tool brings it back to light: it decrypts the code from a photo or scan and at the same time names its type, for example EAN-13 or Code 128. Useful in the warehouse, during stocktaking or to capture a product number instead of typing it digit by digit.

Drop a photo, a scan or an image file of the code. Behind the scenes the image is converted to greyscale, the barcode is measured by its bars and translated back into characters - all in your device memory. Not a single pixel goes to a server, and no library is loaded from a foreign CDN.

It supports the widespread linear codes such as EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC, Code 128, Code 39 and ITF, plus two-dimensional ones like QR and Data Matrix. If the analysis finds no readable code, the tool says so openly rather than guessing a number. The result - the value with its detected type - can be copied out or saved as a text file.

      In 3 steps

      1. Drop a photo or scan of the barcode.
      2. Start decoding - it computes on the device.
      3. Read off the number and type or save it as a file.

Limitations: It processes linear and two-dimensional codes; the code must sit sharp, straight and large enough in the image. Heavily shaken, mirrored or damaged codes can fail, then an honest message appears. One image counts per run and the first code recognized; the tool does not read prices or product names, because those are not in the code at all.

      FAQ

Does my photo leave the device?

No. The whole decoding happens in your browser memory; the image is neither uploaded nor stored.

Which barcode types does the tool understand?

Linear ones like EAN-13/8, UPC, Code 128, Code 39 and ITF, as well as two-dimensional ones like QR code and Data Matrix.

Do I also get the code type?

Yes. Alongside the decoded value the tool outputs the detected type, for example EAN_13 or CODE_128.

Why is my code not recognized?

Usually it is down to blur, too little contrast or too small a crop. A sharper, straight-aligned photo helps; otherwise the tool honestly reports that nothing was found.
