The NIK (Nomor Induk Kependudukan) is Indonesia's sixteen-digit personal identity number, printed on the KTP ID card. Its structure is publicly documented: two digits province code, two digits regency code, two digits sub-district code, then the birth date (day, month, two-digit year) and a four-digit sequence number. For a female holder, 40 is added to the day - that is how the number itself encodes gender.
This tool is a decoder, not a registry lookup (important and honest): it reads out only what is publicly documented in the sixteen digits themselves - province, regency/sub-district code (as raw digits, without name lookup, since those tables are not reliably sourceable), birth date and gender. It does not access any population registry and stores nothing. There is also no publicly documented check digit for a NIK - this tool therefore validates length and date plausibility, never an invented checksum.

Any additional information derived from the number's structure (province, birth date, gender) is based solely on the publicly documented encoding logic of the issuing authority. This tool derives the birth date, gender and region purely by computation from the number you enter; it does not access any registry and stores nothing. Regency/sub-district names and the newest (2022) province codes are deliberately not guessed, only shown as a raw code. This function runs exclusively locally in the user's browser. The provider never receives, stores, or transmits the entered number or any result derived from it. How is gender encoded?
For a female holder, 40 is added to the birth day (e.g. day 15 becomes 55); this tool subtracts that back out and shows the real date plus the encoded gender.
