A PDF is uncomfortable to read on a small screen or e-reader: fixed pages, fixed font size, constant zooming and horizontal scrolling. EPUB solves exactly that, because the text reflows to fit the screen size and your own font settings - flowing instead of a rigid image. This tool reads your PDF's structure and builds a real, standards-compliant EPUB 3 e-book from it locally.

The content building blocks are kept: headings become a navigable chapter and contents overview (the EPUB navigation document), ordered and unordered lists as well as bold and italic text are preserved, ruled tables are carried over as a real HTML table, and embedded images are inserted at their place in the reading flow - scaled to fit any screen size. Everything runs through the same shared structure engine as this site's other PDF conversions.

Honest and important: because EPUB always reflows, the exact page and column layout of the original PDF is always lost - that is the point of the format, not a flaw. Paragraphs, headings, lists, bold/italic, images and simple ruled tables come through well; it gets weaker with borderless tables and very complex documents. A scanned or image-only PDF has no text layer; use "PDF OCR" first for those. Everything runs locally in the browser; your file does not leave your device.

    In 3 steps

    1. Drop your PDF.
    2. The structure is detected locally and converted to EPUB.
    3. Download the EPUB and read it on any e-reader.

Limitations: Reflowable rendering, not a page-faithful PDF copy: headings (as navigation entries), paragraphs, ordered/unordered lists, bold/italic, images (inserted at their place in the reading flow) and simple ruled tables are kept. The original page and column layout is always lost (the point of the reflow format). Weaker with borderless tables, nested lists and very complex documents. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer - a note pointing at "PDF OCR" appears instead of an empty result. Open password-protected PDFs with "Unlock PDF" first.

    FAQ

    Is the PDF uploaded?

No. The structure is detected entirely locally in the browser and the EPUB is built locally; the file does not leave your device.

Why does the layout look different from the PDF?

EPUB is a reflowable format: the text adapts to screen size and font settings instead of depicting a fixed page. The original page and column layout is deliberately lost in the process.

    Does chapter navigation work?

Yes. Headings are added to the EPUB navigation document, so your e-reader shows a clickable chapter overview.

Are images from the PDF included?

Yes. Embedded images are detected, inserted at their place in the reading flow and scale to fit the screen width.

What happens with a scanned PDF?

A scan has no text layer. The tool reports this honestly and points at "PDF OCR" instead of producing an empty or useless EPUB.

On which devices can I read the EPUB?

On any common e-reader and reading app that supports the open EPUB 3 standard - for example Apple Books, Google Play Books or many dedicated e-readers.
