Record your screen

Record your screen, a window or a browser tab locally as a WebM video - right in the browser, no software install, no upload.

Running locally on your device ...

Your browser will now ask which screen, window or tab to share - and whether to include audio.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser - your file never leaves your device. How this is verifiable

A quick screen walkthrough for a colleague, a bug repro for support, or a short software demo clip - this tool records your screen, a single window or a browser tab, with no software to install. It uses the screen-sharing and recording interfaces modern browsers already ship (getDisplayMedia + MediaRecorder) - no extension, no plugin, no upfront download.

Clicking "Start recording" makes your OWN browser - through its own trusted dialog - ask which screen, window or tab you want to share, and whether to also capture audio (e.g. from a video tab). This page never sees that dialog and cannot bypass it - the decision is the browser's and yours.

Recording runs entirely locally: every video chunk lands directly in your browser's own memory, never on a foreign server. When you stop the recording (your own button, or the browser's own "stop sharing" control), the tool assembles the chunks into a WebM file you download directly. Declining or cancelling the screen-share prompt is a normal, expected outcome - not an error, just a message with the option to try again.

Cloud screen recorders like Loom or Screencastify require an account, upload every recording to the cloud, and cap the length or number of recordings on the free tier. This tool needs no account, uploads nothing to a cloud and has no time limit other than your tab memory - the recording never leaves your device until you click download yourself.

In 3 steps

  1. Click "Start recording".
  2. In the browser dialog, choose a screen, window or tab (and optionally share audio).
  3. Stop the recording and download the WebM file.

Limitations: Output format is WebM (VP8/VP9 + Opus, depending on the browser) - no MP4 export. Needs a modern browser with MediaRecorder + screen sharing (recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox); if either interface is missing, the tool says so honestly instead of producing an empty recording. The share decision (which screen/window/tab, with or without audio) is made exclusively by the browser's own dialog. The recorded file stays in the tab's memory until downloaded - switching or closing the tab before downloading discards it.

FAQ

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The whole recording stays locally in your browser's memory until you download it - it never leaves your device.

What happens if I decline the screen-share prompt?

Nothing bad - the tool shows a calm message with the option to try again. It is not an error, just a normal decision.

Can I record my microphone too?

Not directly - this tool only captures the picture and optionally the shared source's own audio (e.g. video sound) as offered by the browser dialog, not your separate microphone.

Which file format comes out?

WebM (VP8/VP9 video, Opus audio) - the format MediaRecorder natively supports in common browsers.

Can I convert the WebM file to MP4?

Yes, use the sibling tool "Convert video" for that.

Can I record my screen on a phone?

Only to a limited extent - the screen-sharing interface (getDisplayMedia) this tool relies on is not yet reliably supported by most mobile browsers. Recording works best in a desktop browser such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No. No signup, no subscription, no time limit - the recording runs as long as your memory allows.

Does my recording end up in some cloud?

No. The recording stays exclusively in your browser memory until you download it - there is no cloud upload to opt out of.
