A US auto loan calculator works out the monthly payment for financing a vehicle: the down payment and any trade-in value reduce the amount financed, and sales tax on the purchase price (minus the trade-in) is usually rolled into the loan rather than paid separately.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. The vehicle price, down payment, trade-in and sales tax combine into the amount financed; the calculator applies the same annuity formula as the standard loan calculator. It shows the monthly payment, amount financed, total interest and total cost, plus an amortization schedule.

An honest note: this is a model-based estimate, not a loan commitment. Registration fees, documentation fees and insurance are not included, nor any fine-grained regional sales tax variation. The actual rate depends heavily on your credit profile and dealer.

A key lever is the term: a longer term (72 or 84 months) lowers the monthly payment but raises the total interest markedly - and because a car loses value faster than a long loan is paid down, the balance owed can sit above the vehicle's worth for a while (negative equity). The amortization schedule shows how the payment and the remaining balance develop over the chosen term.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter vehicle price, down payment and trade-in.
  2. Adjust sales tax, loan term and interest rate.
  3. Read off the monthly payment, total interest and amortization schedule.

Limitations: A model-based estimate, not a loan commitment. Registration/documentation fees and insurance are not included; sales tax is a single entered rate with no regional fine-grading.

FAQ

Does my vehicle price leave my device?

No, the entire calculation runs locally in your browser - nothing is uploaded or stored.

Is sales tax rolled into the loan?

Yes, by default - matching how most US buyers do it. It is calculated on the purchase price minus the trade-in.

Does the down payment reduce sales tax too?

No, only the trade-in reduces the tax base in this model - matching how most US states treat it.

Are registration fees included?

No, registration and documentation fees and insurance are not part of this calculation.

What interest rate should I enter?

The APR quoted by a lender or dealer for your credit profile.
