In France, the CSG (Contribution Sociale Généralisée, 9.2 percent) and the CRDS (Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale, 0.5 percent) are deducted first from the gross salary (salaire brut) - both on 98.25 percent of the gross salary (a flat allowance for professional expenses). On top come further social contributions (pension, unemployment insurance, the AGIRC-ARRCO supplementary pension), which vary by status: for a non-cadre (regular employee) they typically total around 22 to 23 percent of the gross salary, for a cadre (executive/manager) around 25 percent - the well-known rule of thumb "net pay is roughly 78 percent (non-cadre) or 75 percent (cadre) of gross pay". On the remaining taxable income, the calculator additionally applies the progressive income-tax tariff (barème progressif) to estimate the monthly withholding tax (prélèvement à la source).

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. CSG, CRDS and the remaining social contributions are deducted from the gross salary, giving the net-before-tax salary. On the income adjusted for the deductible portion of CSG, the calculator applies the barème progressif (single person, one quotient familial part) to estimate the income tax. Net-before-tax minus the estimated tax gives the net-after-tax salary - the amount that actually reaches your bank account.

An honest note: the remaining social contributions (pension, unemployment insurance, AGIRC-ARRCO) are assumed at a typical average rate per status, not computed from your specific collective agreement or employer - the exact rate depends on the industry and employer. Income tax is estimated for a single person (1 part) with no other income, allowances or tax credits; the actual withholding (prélèvement à la source) is based on an individual rate communicated by the tax authority. The CSG/CRDS ceiling (4x PASS) is not modelled. Not tax advice.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter the monthly gross salary.
  2. Choose the status (non-cadre or cadre).
  3. Read off the net-before-tax salary, social contributions, estimated tax and net-after-tax salary.

Limitations: A model-based estimate: CSG/CRDS computed exactly per the 2026 rates (9.2 percent + 0.5 percent on 98.25 percent of gross), the remaining social contributions as a typical average rate per status (non-cadre/cadre), income tax from the 2026 barème progressif for a single person (1 part), with no other income/allowances/credits. The CSG/CRDS ceiling (4x PASS) is not modelled. France only. Not tax advice.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is the difference between cadre and non-cadre?

Cadre denotes executives/professionals under their own supplementary-pension scheme (higher AGIRC-ARRCO contributions); non-cadre are regular employees. The typical social-contribution rate differs by around 2 to 3 percentage points as a result.

What are CSG and CRDS?

CSG (Contribution Sociale Généralisée) and CRDS (Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale) are statutory social levies on earned income - together 9.7 percent on 98.25 percent of the gross salary; part of the CSG is deductible from income tax.

Is the estimated tax identical to my actual withholding rate?

No. The prélèvement à la source is based on an individual rate the tax authority computes from your last tax return. This calculator instead estimates the annual tax from the barème for a single person with no further details.
