GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's nationwide sales tax, introduced in 2017 to replace the earlier patchwork of state and central taxes (VAT, Service Tax, Excise Duty and others). The GST Council sets one of four standard rates - 5, 12, 18 or 28 percent - for most goods and services (narrower special rates, e.g. for precious metals, exist too but are deliberately not modelled here). This calculator works in both directions: add GST to a net amount, or back it out of a GST-inclusive gross amount.
The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. Adding GST: gross = net x (1 + rate); removing it: net = gross / (1 + rate); the GST amount is the difference either way. Change the amount, rate or direction and the net amount, GST amount and gross amount update instantly.
An honest note: this is a plain calculation aid for the four standard slabs, not tax advice and not a substitute for an invoice compliant with the CGST/SGST Act. The split into CGST and SGST for intra-state supplies (each half the rate) versus IGST for inter-state supplies is not shown separately - only the total GST amount.

Enter the amount and pick the matching GST rate.
Choose the direction: add GST or remove it.
Read off the net amount, GST amount and gross amount.
Limitations: A plain calculation aid for the four standard GST slabs (5/12/18/28%) in both directions. Not modelled: the special rates (e.g. for precious metals), the CGST/SGST/IGST split, or invoice-format compliance. Not tax advice.
FAQ
Is my amount uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.
Which GST rates does the calculator cover?
The four standard rates: 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent. Narrower special rates (e.g. 0.25% or 3% for certain precious metals/diamonds) are deliberately not modelled here.
What is the difference between "add" and "remove"?
"Add" takes a net amount and works out the gross amount including GST. "Remove" takes an amount that already includes GST and splits it back into the net and GST portions.
Does the calculator show CGST and SGST separately?
No, it shows only the total GST amount. For intra-state supplies that splits evenly into CGST and SGST; for inter-state supplies the full rate is IGST.
Does this also work offline?
Yes. After the first load, the calculation works entirely without an internet connection.
