PPF (Public Provident Fund) is a government-guaranteed Indian savings scheme with a statutory 15-year tenure (extendable afterward in five-year blocks), an interest rate the Finance Ministry sets quarterly, and annual interest crediting. Between INR 500 and INR 1,50,000 may be deposited per financial year. PPF falls under the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category - the contribution, the interest earned and the maturity payout are all tax-free.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. It assumes a deposit at the start of every financial year (the earliest, most favourable timing, which most public PPF calculators also assume) and applies the current PPF rate - unchanged for several consecutive quarters - compounded annually. Change the annual contribution and the maturity value, total contributions, estimated interest and the growth chart update instantly.

An honest note: the rate used is the last known PPF rate published by the Finance Ministry - it is reset quarterly and can change going forward; check the current rate with your bank, the post office, or at nsiindia.gov.in before making a real deposit. Partial early withdrawals (allowed from the seventh year) and loans against the PPF balance (allowed from the third year) are not modelled.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter the annual contribution (INR 500 to 1,50,000).
  2. The calculation runs automatically, locally in the browser, over the fixed 15-year tenure.
  3. Read off the projected maturity value, total contributions and estimated interest.

Limitations: A model-based projection over the fixed 15-year PPF tenure, with deposits at the start of each year and the last known, quarterly-set PPF interest rate. Partial early withdrawals and loans against the balance are not modelled. Check the current rate before making a real deposit. Not investment advice.

FAQ

Is my contribution uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is the currently used interest rate?

The calculator uses the last known rate published by the Finance Ministry. Since it is reset quarterly, check the current value at nsiindia.gov.in before making a real deposit.

Why is the tenure fixed at 15 years?

Because 15 years is the statutory minimum tenure of a PPF account. It can be extended afterward in five-year blocks, which this calculator does not model.

Why is there a minimum and maximum for the contribution?

Because the PPF scheme legally allows a minimum of INR 500 and a maximum of INR 1,50,000 in contributions per financial year - the calculator automatically clamps your input to this range.

Are the interest and the maturity payout taxable?

No. PPF falls under the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category - the contribution, the interest earned and the maturity payout are all three tax-free.
