In the Netherlands, the box 1 "loonheffing" combines wage tax and national-insurance premiums (AOW/Anw/Wlz) into one bracketed rate: 35.82 percent up to EUR 38,441 of annual income, 37.48 percent from EUR 38,441 to EUR 76,817, 49.50 percent above (below AOW pension age). This calculator applies the bracket table to the gross salary annualised from your monthly figure.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The monthly gross salary is multiplied by 12, the box 1 bracket table applied progressively, and the result (loonheffing) deducted from the annual gross salary. It shows the estimated annual net salary, the monthly net salary, the estimated loonheffing and the effective rate.

An honest note: the heffingskortingen (algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting - income-dependent tax credits) are NOT included; they would noticeably raise the actual net salary. Vakantiegeld (the 8 percent holiday allowance, usually paid and taxed separately) and box 2/3 income are also not included. The tariff only applies below AOW pension age. Netherlands only. Not tax advice.

Limitations: A model-based estimate: 2026 box 1 tariff (35.82/37.48/49.50 percent, thresholds EUR 38,441/76,817, below AOW age). Not modelled: heffingskortingen (algemene heffingskorting/arbeidskorting), vakantiegeld, box 2/3 income. Netherlands only. Not tax advice.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is the loonheffing?

The Dutch payroll levy: a combination of income tax and national-insurance premiums, withheld directly by the employer.

Why is my actual net salary higher?

Usually because of the heffingskortingen (algemene heffingskorting and arbeidskorting) - income-dependent tax credits that this calculator does not model.

Does the tariff also apply to pensioners (AOW age reached)?

No, people who have already reached AOW pension age pay a different (lower) rate, since they no longer pay the AOW premium. This calculator only models the tariff below AOW pension age.
