ICO is the Windows icon format and the standard for favicons and program symbols. A good icon holds several sizes so it stays sharp in the taskbar, file explorer and browser tab. PNG is the ideal source because it is lossless and supports transparency.

Your PNG is scaled locally to the chosen sizes and written as a valid ICO with PNG-embedded entries; transparency is preserved. Nothing is uploaded.

The most common reason for this conversion is a favicon.ico for your own website or a symbol for a self-built Windows program. So the icon stays sharp both in the tiny browser tab and in larger views, the tool places several sizes into a single file. It is therefore best to start with a generous, square PNG template: scaling down to 16 or 32 pixels works cleanly, whereas an original that is too small looks slightly washed out when upscaled. Subjects with clear shapes and bold colours work far better at the small sizes than delicate detail.

      1. Drop or tap your PNG file.
      2. Choose sizes (default 16+32+48).

Limitations: ICO icons are at most 256 px. A PNG smaller than the chosen size is upscaled and may look blurry. A square PNG works best.

      FAQ

      Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in the browser - even in airplane mode.

      Which sizes do I need?

For a favicon 16, 32 and 48 px; for an app icon additionally 256 px. The preset picks that for you.

      Is transparency preserved?

Yes, the PNG alpha channel is carried into every ICO size.

      Should the PNG be square?

Yes, icons are square. A non-square PNG is fitted into the square.
