Sil-su-ryeong-aek (실수령액) is the Korean term for net salary - the amount actually paid out after the 4 major insurance schemes and taxes are deducted from the gross salary. This calculator reproduces the 4 employee-paid contributions (National Pension, Health Insurance, Long-Term-Care Insurance as a percentage of the health premium, Employment Insurance), plus the progressive income tax and the 10 percent local income tax (jibang-sodeukse) surtax on it.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser: gross salary first has the earned-income deduction (geun-ro-sodeuk-gongje) subtracted, then the 4 insurance premiums and the personal deductions (1,500,000 won per person - yourself plus dependents). The progressive tax tariff (6 to 45 percent across eight bands) is applied to the remaining taxable base, plus the 10 percent local income tax on the income tax.

An honest note: this is an annual model-based estimate, not a reproduction of the official monthly simplified withholding table (gan-i-se-aek-pyo). The earned-income tax credit (geun-ro-sodeuk-se-aek-gongje) and the child tax credit are not included - the tax shown is therefore a somewhat conservative upper estimate; real take-home pay, especially with dependents, is often somewhat higher.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Which 4 insurance schemes are meant?

National Pension (guk-min-yeon-geum), Health Insurance (geon-gang-bo-heom), Long-Term-Care Insurance (jang-gi-yo-yang-bo-heom) and Employment Insurance (go-yong-bo-heom).

Why might the real net salary be higher?

Because this calculator does not model the earned-income tax credit or the child tax credit - both further reduce the actual tax owed.

Is this an exact payslip?

No, it is an annual model estimate. Real monthly payroll uses the official simplified withholding table, which converges toward this model at the year-end settlement (yeon-mal-jeong-san).

What is the local income tax (jibang-sodeukse)?

A flat 10 percent surtax on the computed income tax - structurally like every other Korean tax surtax.
