TNCN (Thue Thu nhap Ca nhan) is Vietnam's personal income tax on residents' salaries. Under the Law on Personal Income Tax 04/2007/QH12 (as amended by 26/2012/QH13) a seven-tier progressive monthly tariff applies: 5 percent up to 5 million dong of monthly taxable income, 10 percent up to 10 million, 15 percent up to 18 million, 20 percent up to 32 million, 25 percent up to 52 million, 30 percent up to 80 million and 35 percent above that. Before the tariff is applied, the family-circumstance deduction (giam tru gia canh) is subtracted: 11 million dong a month for the taxpayer themself, plus 4.4 million dong per dependent (Resolution 954/2020/UBTVQH14).

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The monthly taxable income you enter is assumed to already be net of the mandatory social, health and unemployment insurance contributions. The calculator subtracts the personal deduction (11 million dong) plus the dependent deduction (4.4 million dong per person), then applies the seven-tier tariff to the remainder. It shows the monthly TNCN tax, the remaining taxable income, the total deduction, the average tax rate and the annualised tax - instantly on every input.

An honest note: the deductions (11/4.4 million dong) are the last CONFIRMED level set by Resolution 954/2020/UBTVQH14; a further increase has been discussed politically, and whether it has taken effect could not be verified in this offline environment - check the current level with the General Department of Taxation (Tong cuc Thue) before a real annual filing. This calculator does NOT derive the mandatory insurance contributions itself and is not tax advice. Applies only to tax-resident individuals in Vietnam with salary income.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter the monthly taxable income in dong (already net of mandatory insurance).
  2. Enter the number of dependents.
  3. Read off the TNCN tax, remaining income, deduction and average rate.

Limitations: A model-based estimate of the monthly TNCN tax (seven-tier tariff, 5-35 percent) on a GIVEN monthly income already net of mandatory insurance, less the family deduction (11 million + 4.4 million dong per dependent, per Resolution 954/2020). A possible newer deduction increase could not be verified offline. Not modelled: deriving the mandatory insurance contributions, non-resident taxpayers, other income types. Vietnam only. Not tax advice.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

What is giam tru gia canh?

The family-circumstance deduction: 11 million dong a month for yourself, plus 4.4 million dong per dependent.

Do I need to deduct social-insurance contributions myself?

Yes. The income you enter should already be net of the mandatory social, health and unemployment insurance contributions - this calculator does not derive them itself.

Does the tariff only apply monthly?

The statutory tariff is defined as a monthly table. The calculator additionally shows an annualised tax (the monthly figure times 12) for reference.

Are the deductions current?

They match the last confirmed level (Resolution 954/2020/UBTVQH14). A further increase has been discussed; check the current level with the General Department of Taxation before a real filing.
