This tool builds an invoice from your input: seller, buyer, invoice number, date and one line per item - exactly like the sister tools "Create a ZUGFeRD/Factur-X invoice" and the SEPA generators. It follows the mandatory fields under German § 14 (4) UStG: the full name and address of seller and buyer, a tax number or VAT ID, the issue date, a sequential invoice number, the quantity and description of each item, and the applicable tax rate. If any of these is missing, a notice sheet at the end of the PDF says so honestly - the invoice is still produced; it is a self-check, not a blocker.

Your company logo stays local: if you upload one, it is embedded into the PDF ONLY in your browser - it is never sent anywhere. When "Small business" is on (German § 19 UStG), the invoice shows no VAT and instead carries the legally required statement. The tool suggests the invoice number automatically and keeps counting up with every invoice you create - this numbering sequence is stored ONLY locally in this browser (localStorage) and is therefore per device/browser: using several devices or clearing your browser data means the counter has to be reconciled manually. Turning on "Embed ZUGFeRD/Factur-X XML" additionally produces a real e-invoice: the very same CII XML per EN 16931 that the sister tool produces gets embedded straight into the PDF - with no server, no upload, a differentiator hardly any competitor offers purely client-side. Since 1 January 2025, domestic German businesses must at least be able to receive e-invoices (Wachstumschancengesetz); the obligation to issue them follows on a staggered timeline through 2027/2028 for most businesses - the ZUGFeRD option makes this invoice ready for that today.

Important and honest: this tool is not tax advice and not legal advice. It checks the mandatory fields under German § 14 (4) UStG only structurally (are the fields filled in?) and gives no warranty for their substantive correctness or completeness - the German VAT act (UStG) and your tax advisor are authoritative. Small-amount invoices (up to EUR 250, simplified mandatory fields under § 33 UStDV), credit notes and intra-EU supplies are not separately modelled in this version. The ZUGFeRD embedding is structural/Beta: full strict PDF/A-3 conformance cannot be conclusively produced in the browser - check the result with your invoicing software if needed. Everything runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript via pdf-lib, no server) - your business data and your logo never leave your device.

In 3 steps

  1. Enter the invoice data - one field per line (e.g. "Item: Consulting | 2 | 100.00"), optionally upload a logo.
  2. Tap Generate - the PDF is built locally in the browser.
  3. Download the invoice (optionally including the embedded ZUGFeRD XML).

Limitations: This tool is not tax advice and not legal advice: it checks the mandatory fields under German § 14 (4) UStG (seller/buyer name and address, tax number/VAT ID, date, sequential invoice number, line items, tax rate) only STRUCTURALLY, not substantively, and gives no warranty for them - the German VAT act (UStG) or your tax advisor is authoritative. Small-amount invoices (§ 33 UStDV), credit notes, intra-EU supplies and several tax rates per invoice are not modelled in this version. The invoice number is a suggestion stored locally in this browser (the numbering sequence is per device/browser, no server sync) - across several devices you have to ensure gap-/duplicate-freeness yourself. The optional ZUGFeRD/Factur-X embedding is structural/Beta (strict PDF/A-3 conformance cannot be conclusively verified in the browser).

FAQ

Are my invoice data or my logo uploaded?

No. Everything runs entirely locally in the browser (pdf-lib, no server); neither your business data nor your logo ever leave your device.

Is this tax advice?

No. The tool checks the mandatory fields under German § 14 (4) UStG only structurally (are the fields filled in?), not substantively. It is not tax advice and not legal advice - the German VAT act (UStG) or your tax advisor is authoritative.

What does "Small business" mean?

Under German § 19 UStG, small businesses show no VAT. Turning the option on removes the tax line from the invoice and shows the legally required statement instead - whether you actually qualify as a small business is decided by you and your tax office.

How does the numbering sequence work?

After every invoice you create, the tool automatically suggests the next number. This counter is stored ONLY locally in this browser (localStorage) - it is per device/browser and does not sync with a server or another device.

What is ZUGFeRD and do I have to embed it?

ZUGFeRD/Factur-X additionally embeds the invoice data as machine-readable XML (CII per EN 16931) into the PDF, which accounting software can read automatically. It is optional - leave the option off and you get a plain PDF invoice with no XML.

What happens if a mandatory field is missing?

The invoice is still created - a notice sheet at the end of the PDF (not part of the invoice) lists which of the fields expected under German § 14 (4) UStG were left blank, so you can add them.
