The GPA (Grade Point Average) is the standard measure of academic performance in the US education system: each letter grade maps to a point value on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0 down to F = 0.0), weighted by each course credit hours. This calculator works out both the plain GPA and the weighted GPA, which rewards Honors and AP/IB courses with a bonus, from a list of courses.
The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. For up to four courses you enter the grade, credit hours and course level directly; "Show more courses" reveals four more rows for up to eight courses in total. The plain GPA is the sum of grade point times credit hours, divided by the total credit hours. The weighted GPA adds 0.5 points for Honors and 1.0 points for AP/IB courses before weighting - an F always stays 0.0 regardless of course level.
An honest note: the exact 4.0 scale and the Honors/AP bonus points differ between schools and colleges - some use different intermediate values or skip weighting entirely. This calculator uses the most common convention (A/A- = 4.0/3.7, +0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP/IB) as guidance, not an official transcript.

Enter the grade and credit hours per course.
Choose the course level (Standard/Honors/AP-IB) per course.
Read off the GPA, weighted GPA and total credit hours.
Limitations: Guidance following the most common 4.0-scale convention (A/A- = 4.0/3.7, Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0) - not an official transcript. Some schools and colleges use different intermediate values or weightings; an F never receives a course-level bonus.
FAQ
Are my grades uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.
What is the difference between GPA and weighted GPA?
The plain GPA scores each grade only on the 4.0 scale. The weighted GPA additionally gives a bonus for Honors (+0.5) and AP/IB courses (+1.0), since those count as more demanding.
Does an F also get a course-level bonus?
No. An F stays at 0.0 points in both GPA variants, regardless of whether the course is classed as Honors or AP/IB.
Can I enter more than eight courses?
The calculator offers eight course rows (four visible immediately, four more via "Show more courses"). For additional courses, add them separately or use the rounded intermediate results as a basis.
