The Hijri calendar (Islamic calendar) counts years from the Prophet Muhammad's migration to Medina (622 CE) and is purely lunar - every month begins with a new moon cycle and has 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year has only about 354 days. It is the official calendar of Saudi Arabia and the religious basis for Islamic holidays such as Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr worldwide. This tool converts in both directions: from a Gregorian date to the matching Hijri date, and from a Hijri year, month and day to the Gregorian date.
The conversion runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. The Gregorian-to-Hijri direction uses the Umm al-Qura calendar calculation built into the browser, the same official Saudi calculation basis official Islamic calendars use. The Hijri-to-Gregorian direction is harder, because the Umm al-Qura calendar is tabular (no fixed formula): the tool therefore searches among the same values the forward direction uses for the matching date, instead of guessing its own approximation - so both directions rest on the same source.
An honest note: Umm al-Qura is the Hijri calendar officially used in Saudi Arabia; other Islamic countries or communities may fix the start of a month differently by moon-sighting observation, so a date there can differ by a day. A Hijri year/month/day combination that never occurred in Umm al-Qura (for example day 30 in a 29-day month) is honestly reported as invalid instead of showing a wrong date.
