How many days lie between two dates? This question comes up when planning deadlines, counting down to an event or determining a duration. This calculator takes a start date and an end date and shows the span in two ways: once as the total number of days and once as a clear breakdown into full years, months and remaining days.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. Both dates are anchored to midnight in coordinated universal time so that daylight saving does not distort the result. The total number of days is the exact gap; the breakdown counts the full years first, then the full months and finally the remaining days - calendar-accurate, that is taking different month lengths and leap years into account. The order of the dates does not matter.

An honest note: it counts calendar days, not working days - so weekends and public holidays are not taken out. The breakdown into years, months and days follows the calendar because months differ in length; the total number of days is unaffected by this and is always exact.

FAQ

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); nothing is sent or stored.

Are weekends and public holidays taken into account?

No. Calendar days are counted. Weekends and public holidays are not taken out - the calculator does not give working days.

Why do months sometimes not match 30 days?

Because months differ in length. The breakdown into years, months and days is calendar-accurate; the exact total number of days is shown separately above. Worked example: from 15 January to 15 March is exactly 2 months, but 59 or 60 days depending on the year.

Does the order of the dates matter?

No. The calculator always takes the gap between the two dates, regardless of which is earlier or later.
