Sequence memory follows the principle known from the electronic game "Simon" (1978): four tiles light up in a sequence, and you tap them back in exactly the same order. Every correctly repeated round makes the sequence one tile longer, until you hit the wrong tile - the tool then shows you the longest sequence you replayed correctly. Each new tile is chosen with the browser cryptographic random source. Everything runs locally: no account, no server, no transmission of your results.

What counts as a normal value? There is no standardized, openly published comparison study for this pattern principle - unlike the reaction test, we deliberately skip a computed percentage and show only the sequence length you reached.

Grouping the order into smaller chunks instead of memorizing each tile individually usually gets you further. Your best score, history and streak are stored locally in your browser - with a visible export and delete button, so your data genuinely belongs to you.

FAQ

Are my results uploaded or stored?

Nothing is uploaded: the measurement runs entirely locally in your browser. Your best score, history (at most the last 50 runs) and streak are stored locally - you can export them as a JSON file or delete them with one click at any time. There is no account and no server leaderboard.

Where does this game design come from?

It is inspired by the well-known 1978 electronic game "Simon", where four colored tiles are replayed in growing sequences. Our test is our own browser-based implementation of this principle, not a licensed copy.

Can I train my pattern memory?

To some extent, yes: chunking strategies (grouping the order into small clusters) demonstrably help. The underlying memory capacity itself cannot be increased indefinitely though.

Is this an IQ test?

No. Sequence memory is a memory benchmark for ordered pattern retention, not an IQ test and not a psychological or medical diagnosis.
