A UK take-home pay calculator shows what actually arrives from a gross salary under PAYE (Pay As You Earn): income tax under the progressive HMRC bands (20/40/45 percent) plus Class 1 National Insurance contributions. The Personal Allowance is gradually reduced at very high income and fully gone above GBP 125,140.

The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. The (possibly reduced) Personal Allowance comes off the annual salary first, and the remainder is taxed through the three bands. National Insurance is computed separately on the same annual salary, with its own thresholds. It shows income tax, National Insurance, net salary (yearly and per pay period) and the effective deduction rate.

An honest note: this is a model-based estimate, not an actual pay stub. It applies the England/Northern Ireland/Wales tariff - Scotland sets its own, different bands (Scottish Income Tax), not modelled here. Student loan repayments, employer pension salary-sacrifice, a non-standard tax code and additional benefits are not included.

FAQ

Does my salary leave my device?

No, the entire calculation runs locally in your browser - nothing is uploaded or stored.

What is the Personal Allowance?

The annual tax-free amount (GBP 12,570 for 2026/27) - income up to that is untaxed. It is gradually reduced between GBP 100,000 and 125,140.

What is National Insurance?

The UK payroll contribution (Class 1, employee share) that funds, among other things, the state pension and the NHS - collected separately from income tax.

Does this apply to Scotland?

No. Scotland sets its own income tax bands (Scottish Income Tax) - this calculator only models England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Why does my allowance shrink at high income?

From GBP 100,000 of annual income, HMRC reduces the Personal Allowance by GBP 1 for every GBP 2 above that threshold - it is fully gone above GBP 125,140.
