Two groups of deductions come off a German gross salary: taxes (wage tax, solidarity surcharge and optional church tax) and social contributions (health, pension, unemployment and long-term-care insurance, split evenly between employee and employer). This calculator models BOTH groups in full - unlike a plain income-tax calculator, which only knows the tax tariff.
The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser, in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. Wage tax is derived from the annual tariff (section 32a EStG) applied to the annualized salary and divided by twelve; tax class III applies the splitting procedure. Social contributions use the current employee shares, capped at each contribution ceiling - including the long-term-care surcharge for the childless aged 23 and over.
An honest note: this is a model-based estimate, not an official pay stub. Wage tax simplifies by using the annual tariff instead of the official monthly withholding procedure; tax classes II, V and VI are not modelled; long-term-care insurance does not account for the reduction from a second child onward or the Saxony special rule. Child allowances, work-related expenses and further pretax benefits are not included.

Limitations: A model-based estimate, not an official pay stub. Wage tax uses the annual tariff instead of the official monthly procedure; tax classes II, V and VI are missing; long-term-care insurance accounts for neither the reduction from a second child nor the Saxony special rule. Child allowances and work-related expenses are not included. Some 2026 social-contribution rates are estimates - check your health insurer's current figures.
FAQ
Does my salary leave my device?
No, the entire calculation runs locally in your browser - nothing is uploaded or stored.
What is different from the income-tax calculator?
The income-tax calculator only knows the tariff applied to an already-determined taxable income. This calculator starts from the monthly gross salary and additionally deducts all four social-insurance branches.
Which tax classes are supported?
I, III and IV - the three most common cases. II, V and VI are deliberately not modelled, as they would need additional special rules (see limitations).
What is the childless surcharge?
An additional surcharge on long-term-care insurance, paid entirely by the employee, for childless employees aged 23 and over.
Why is the health insurance surcharge editable?
It differs by health insurer - the calculator pre-fills an average value that you can adjust to your own insurer.
