Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam: a mandatory annual payment of 2.5% on zakatable wealth (cash, savings, gold/silver, trade goods and more) once that wealth reaches or exceeds the Nisab threshold. The Nisab threshold itself is defined as the value of 85 grams of gold OR 595 grams of silver - many scholars consider the silver basis the more inclusive choice, since its value is usually lower, so more people reach the Zakat obligation (supporting more of those in need).
Important and honest: the Nisab threshold is NOT pure mathematics - it depends on today's gold or silver price, which this site deliberately does NOT hard-code. A silent, stale or invented metal price would be a religiously significant wrong answer here, and gold/silver prices move daily. That is why this tool actively asks for the current price per gram: quickly look it up at your bank, a precious-metals dealer or a financial-news site of your choice (search e.g. "gold price per gram" or "silver price per gram") and enter it before trusting the result. Without an entered price, the Nisab threshold stays at 0 and the tool honestly shows no Zakat due, instead of inventing a wrong figure.
The whole calculation runs entirely locally in your browser (pure JavaScript, no server, no account) - your wealth and the metal price you enter never leave your device. If your wealth is at or above the Nisab threshold, the tool computes 2.5% of it as the Zakat amount, plus the wealth remaining afterward. Below that threshold, no Zakat is due.

The tool covers only the base rule (2.5% above the Nisab threshold, assuming a lunar year of possession); special cases such as trade goods, agricultural produce, livestock or differing schools of jurisprudence (madhahib) are not modelled.
