PDF files often carry invisible metadata: author name, the software used, creation and modification dates, sometimes a title and keywords. Sharing a document hands these along unintentionally. This tool removes them entirely, locally in your browser - or sets title, author, subject and keywords deliberately.

By default all info fields are cleared and the timestamps set to a neutral value (privacy first). Turn off "Remove all metadata" to enter your own values instead - empty fields are then left unchanged. The actual page content is never altered.

Honestly framed: on saving, the PDF library technically writes its own Producer entry and a fresh modification date; but personal details from the original stay removed. XMP metadata streams in embedded objects are not covered by this version.

An important distinction: metadata is not the page content. Clearing the info fields removes author, software and date, but no visible text, no watermark and no information burned into the image - redacting or cropping is responsible for that. This is deliberately about the invisible data layer that many programs leave behind unasked.

In 3 steps

  1. Drop your PDF.
  2. Let it remove all, or enter your own fields.
  3. Download the cleaned PDF.

Limitations: Edits the document info fields (title, author, subject, keywords) and can remove them entirely. "Remove all" takes precedence over entered values. On saving the PDF library sets its own Producer + a fresh date; embedded XMP streams are not touched. Open password-protected PDFs first with "Unlock PDF".

FAQ

Are the metadata really removed?

Yes, the info fields are cleared and timestamps neutralised - locally in the browser. Technically the library sets its own Producer entry on save, but your original details stay removed.

Can I set title and author myself?

Yes. Turn off "Remove all metadata" and enter title, author, subject or keywords; empty fields stay unchanged.

Does it change the page content?

No, only the document metadata. Page text, images and layout stay untouched.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No, everything runs locally in the browser (pdf-lib); the file never leaves your device.
