FGTS (Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço) is the Brazilian employee severance-savings scheme under Law 8.036/1990: the employer deposits 8 percent of the gross monthly salary into a blocked personal account at Caixa Econômica Federal every month. The balance typically becomes available on a no-cause dismissal, for buying a home, or in a handful of other legally defined cases.
The balance earns monthly-capitalized interest by law - the Taxa Referencial (TR) plus 3 percent per year. Since the TR has mostly hovered near zero in recent years, this calculator simplifies to that 3 percent p.a. as the monthly-capitalized rate (optionally switched off); the calculation assumes a constant monthly salary across the whole chosen period.
The whole calculation runs entirely locally in your browser in pure JavaScript - salary and result are not uploaded and not stored. The result, the balance chart and a year-by-year breakdown (deposits, interest, balance) appear instantly.

In 3 steps
Enter the monthly gross salary.
Set the number of months contributed.
Optionally switch the 3% p.a. interest on or off.
Read off the final balance, total deposits and interest earned.
Limitations: A model-based estimate: assumes a constant monthly salary across the whole period and simplifies the legally mandated TR+3% interest to a fixed 3% p.a. rate (the TR component itself is not modelled separately). Not modelled: employer changes, withdrawals (saques), the 40% dismissal penalty (multa), or individual account specifics. Brazil only. Not financial or legal advice.
FAQ
Are my inputs uploaded?
No. The calculation runs entirely locally in the browser; nothing is sent or stored.
Is the 8 percent contribution adjustable?
No, deliberately not: 8 percent is the legally mandated employer contribution (Law 8.036/1990), not a negotiable figure.
What is the Taxa Referencial (TR)?
A central-bank-set reference rate that, together with 3% p.a., forms the legally mandated FGTS interest. Since the TR has mostly stayed near zero, this calculator simplifies to just the 3%.
Does the calculator account for withdrawals or a job change?
No, honestly not: it projects an undisturbed accumulation over the given months. Real accounts can differ due to withdrawals (saques) or multiple employers.
