MKV (Matroska) is the preferred container for rips with multiple audio tracks, subtitles and high video quality - popular for anime fansubs, Blu-ray rips and archive collections. If you only want the music or commentary of a film as MP3, you do not need to keep the huge video file.
The tool demuxes the MKV container, drops the video and subtitle tracks (-vn) and encodes the first audio track with libmp3lame to MP3 at the chosen bitrate. If the file contains several audio tracks (e.g. different languages), the first one is extracted.
