No. Everything runs in your browser - your file never leaves your device. How this is verifiable
Data sizes are given in two systems that are easily confused: the decimal SI system (kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte with factor 1000) and the binary IEC system (kibibyte, mebibyte, gibibyte with factor 1024). Drive makers count decimally, operating systems often display binary - which is why a 1-terabyte drive looks smaller in the system.
Concretely: one kilobyte is 1000 bytes, one megabyte a million bytes and so on; one kibibyte by contrast is 1024 bytes, one mebibyte 1024 times 1024 bytes. A drive with 1 terabyte (a trillion bytes) is shown by the operating system as about 931 gibibytes - the same amount of data, only counted differently. This converter supports both systems and passes your value through the base unit byte internally.
Note the difference between byte and bit: one byte is eight bits, and internet speeds are usually given in megabits per second, not megabytes. This calculator works with byte units. The calculation runs entirely locally in your browser in pure JavaScript - nothing is uploaded or stored. The display rounds to six decimals.

Enter the value.
Choose the source unit (From) and target unit (To) - decimal (KB/MB/GB) or binary (KiB/MiB/GiB).
Read off the converted data size.
Limitations:Converts data sizes between byte and the decimal units KB, MB, GB, TB (factor 1000) as well as the binary units KiB, MiB, GiB (factor 1024). It refers to bytes, not bits (1 byte = 8 bits). The display rounds to six decimals.
FAQ
Are my inputs uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely locally in the browser (pure JavaScript); your input never leaves your device and is not stored.
What is the difference between MB and MiB?
A megabyte (MB) is one million bytes (decimal), a mebibyte (MiB) is 1,048,576 bytes (binary, 1024 times 1024). So MiB is slightly larger than MB.
Why does my 1 TB drive show less?
The maker counts decimally (1 TB = a trillion bytes), the operating system often binary. The same amount of data is about 931 gibibytes - hence the smaller number.
Does the tool convert bits too?
No, it works with byte units. One byte is eight bits; internet speeds in megabits per second are a different quantity.
